Issigonis’ humble invention far outgrew everyone’s expectations. Teaming up with John Cooper was a masterstroke. It is now a true British icon. Everyone you speak to has a story about, or connection to these fantastic cars. The Mini won the hearts and minds of a nation.

The Mini’s history needs no re-telling. But it can sometimes be re-modelled – as our vendor has done with his stunning take on a Mk3 Cooper S replica.

Beautifully finished. The original characterful touches are enhanced by choice upgrades. The whole package is compelling.

Background

Against all expectations, the Mini remained in production until July 2000. This one is a 1998 Mk VII version, the final iteration.

The conversion from that to this super replica was extremely well done – the invoices amount to over £15,000!

  • First registered 30 May 1998
  • Only two previous registered keepers
  • We understand this replica was created in 2019
  • MOT’d until September 2024

Mechanicals

The classic A-series engine remains

  • 1275cc (1.3i)
  • With Multi Point Fuel Injection
  • Now believed to be running around 90bhp
  • The super tidy engine bay speaks volumes about this Mini.

As we all know, the A-series engine is bomb proof. This engine is widely accepted to be one of the best modern advancements to the A-Series. These engines are as fast and as powerful as you need, whilst keeping the original road driveability and reliability.

Outside

At first glance, you’d be hard pressed to see this wasn’t a period Mini Cooper. Even up close you’ll do a double take.

  • Period ‘Teal Blue’ with white roof
  • Mk 3 Cooper grille
  • Orange indicators
  • Black number plates
  • Bullet style chrome door mirrors
  • Matt black Mini-lite wheels
  • Badges front and rear
  • Mk 3 rear lamps
  • Chrome sill and arch trims
  • Chrome window frames
  • Chrome bumpers with over-riders

A generous amount of thought and effort has been given over to make this look like the real deal.

We all know the Achilles heel of ‘50s and ’60s cars is the British weather. Using a later Mk VII Mini with modern engineering standards was a clever move. Let’s hope this is good for another 40 years.

Inside

The interior has the best of both worlds. With the equipment it has fitted it can easily be used and enjoyed at events. However, in no time at all it can be returned to ‘standard’ road spec and be used as an everyday car – although there is nothing ordinary about this Mini.

The conversion inside is another great piece of work.

The busy internals of the Mk VII has been stripped out and replaced with the minimalist stripped back 1970 Mini Cooper S interior

  • 130 mph speedo is set in the centre binnacle
  • Either side are oil and temp gauges, just like the original
  • A nice touch is a discrete rev counter
  • Black trim
  • Supportive and comfy bucket seats
  • ‘Safety Devices’ half roll cage
  • Three spoke sports steering wheel with Cooper logo
  • Drilled alloy door fittings
  • A new speedo was fitted. This Mini has covered less than 3,000 miles since.

In Summary

For many of us, Coopers are out of reach. This updated and re-modelled Mini means an updated and re-fashioned car, with all the original characteristics but with few of the anxieties of a 1971 car, is now within reach. You’d be stark raving mad to miss this opportunity. Good luck.

Guide Prices

In a sector, where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’ on a vehicle.   Let’s be honest, everyone knows the broad value of a classic and the ‘market’ decides – but, if you’d like us to provide an estimate that’s fine, just email us and we’ll get back to you.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please

We strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings possible. However, we’re not perfect, and your own analysis is very important, we are here to help and answer any queries you may have.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics. So, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, assume that the vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in their life.

Images and photos Technology continues to improve, but please understand that quality varies. If you would like more images, please ask us and we will contact our vendor for you.

Vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired via an auction site. If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.
