Effortless performance, impressive refinement and a superb all-round driving experience.

An XJS is an extremely sensible way to get into the delightful world of classic Jaguar ownership. This XJS convertible will do it all. Whisk you off to the South of France for a weekend, yet practical enough to potter round to Sainsbury’s and pick-up a pint of milk when you get back.

These are fabulous value at the moment too. Like a good wine they improve with age and increase in value.

History and background

When a car remains in production almost unaltered for 21 years, it genuinely is a classic car. With the last E-types rolling off the production line in 1974 Jaguar needed a worthy successor. In 1968 Jaguar began planning. The initial project was codenamed XJ21. This morphed into the XJ 27/28. Jaguar finally settled on XJ-S.

On the 10th September 1975 Jaguar revealed the XJ-S to the world. It took until 1983 for Jaguar to turn the coupe into a ‘convertible’ with the introduction of the targa topped XJ-SC. By 1988 they’d corrected that mistake and introduced the gorgeous full convertible. Steady improvements to the hood, fixtures and materials brings us bang up to date with the coveted facelift versions like this one.

This convertible XJS looks to have been comprehensively cared for from day one.

  • Evidence of that includes:
  • A large folder of invoices
  • The original book pack
  • A well-stamped service portfolio
  • 26 entries into the service portfolio
  • Registered in the UK August 1993
  • 5 previous owners
  • Original manufactures book pack and service portfolio
  • A substantial collection of invoices and paperwork
  • Invoices cover servicing as well as general maintenance
  • Current and prior MOT certificates
  • Original tool kit

The first impression when you drop inside is premium luxury perfectly executed. With these later iterations Jaguar got it spot-on.

  • Wood trimmed steering wheel
  • Cruise control
  • Electrically adjustable seats
  • The carpets are in good condition protected by over mats

Outside

Finished in a stunning metallic Sapphire Blue, the design is now regarded by many as one of the best. Without question, it looks its best in convertible form.

  • Looking like new this XJS had a new convertible roof fitted in 2019
  • Tonneau cover included
  • Un-marked, recently refurbished five spoke alloy wheels
  • Colour coded bumpers with integrated chrome finishers
  • The brightwork is crisp and clean
  • Smoked rear lenses

With the final version of the XJS convertible Jaguar definitely got it right. Look through the Gallery. With the hood down, that silhouette is amazing. Put the hood up and it looks just as good.

The 4.0 litre AJ6 (Advanced Jaguar 6) is widely regarded as the engine to go for in the XJS. Ample performance, economy and less expensive servicing costs of than that of the V12. This XJS has been maintained throughout its life and is accompanied by pages of evidence.

Bottom line

A wonderful example of Jaguar’s best XJS convertible, in superb condition inside and out. It boasts a comprehensively, well cared-for life.  An achingly gorgeous looking car. Undervalued for far too long, the market is trending up now. A great opportunity to own an appreciating classic Jaguar.
