We are delighted to have this Mini Tahiti which is part small collection of classics from the estate of the late Dr Allam.

Assem Allam became one of the most successful businessmen the county of Yorkshire has known. He was not your average multi-millionaire.

As a student in 1968, he was forced out from his native Egypt after speaking out against dictator Nasser’s regime. After a month in Germany he came to East Yorkshire.  Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail he said: “The people here in Yorkshire made me feel very welcome. I came here for a month and I stayed for 42 years.”

Mr Allam started life in the UK studying economics at the University of Hull and began work as an accountant. He built the successful business; Allam Marine, transforming the diesel generators manufacturer into a global player. Along the way amassed an impressive string of accolades, including twice winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and UK Entrepreneur of the Year

The Allam family became synonymous for their philanthropic gestures.

Millions of pounds have been pumped into education and healthcare in the region. This included support for the Daisy Appeal at Castle Hill Hospital, a birth centre within Hull Women and Children’s Hospital, a new diabetes treatment centre at Hull Royal Infirmary, partly paid for with a donation from Mr Allam. The family also donated to the University of Hull to establish a new bio-sciences research centre, not forgetting the Allam Medical Building, also at the University of Hull which was one of his favourites as it was opened by Queen Elizabeth II. Dr Assem Allam, died at the age of 83 in December 2022.

The Mini Tahiti

The Tahiti was one of a number of limited-edition Specials of the iconic Mini. Produced in celebration of the Mini’s 35th anniversary, only 500 units were made – designed to offer a unique and stylish option for drivers who wanted something standout from the standard Mini.

History and paperwork

This Mini Tahiti is from Dr Allam’s small collection.

  • First registered 24 Jan 1994
  • 4,854 miles since 2011
  • A fresh MOT until Feb 2024
  • Four former keepers
  • It is packed with originality

Outside

The Mini Tahiti featured a number of special modifications that set it apart from the standard model. The most standout of these was the distinctive exterior paintwork, which was exclusive to the Tahiti.

The Mini Tahiti also featured a number of other unique styling elements:

  • 12-inch Minilites with 145/70 tyres
  • All black grille insert
  • Tahiti logo on the bonnet
  • Black and chrome trim

There is no escaping the sheer charm and character of the classic Mini form. Outside it is in good, straightforward condition. The Gallery is packed with pictures for you to make your own judgment. It says a lot about a classic when items such as the original Lucas headlamps are still in place.

There is always the odd wrinkle on a 30 year old Mini and we’ve tried to pick them up for you. There is some surface corrosion on small section of the underside of one of the doors. At the rear, the upper rear valance has a small section too. There is also a small section of cosmetic crud in the boot.

There are however invoices in the file for around £4,000 for cosmetic work carried out to the Mini. Items such as sills, front panel, etc.

PLEASE NOTE – THE PRIVATE REGISTRATION SEEN IN THE VIDEO IS NOT STAYING WITH THE CAR.

Mechanicals

Under the bonnet, the Mini Tahiti has a 1275cc engine, which is very lively. The engine bay is clean and tidy and like the rest of the car all original. Items like bulkhead felt, air cleaner and splash shield are all still intact. This Mini has been well cared for.

The images in the Gallery give some good, honest close-ups of the condition of the underside. This Mini has just recently been issued a new MOT

It runs and drives well as you’d expect of a 14,000 mile Mini. 0-60 is reached in just over 10 seconds and 90mph appears eventually. But no-one buys a Mini for that.

The Mini Tahiti is nimble, light and responsive, its compact size and light weight make it ideal for zipping around town. The whole design gives it excellent stability and simply put, it’s great fun.

Inside

Inside, the Mini Tahiti really does impress.

The seats are finished in a unique trim. The seats, door trims, rear quarter trims are all in fabulous condition. With only limited mileage, the carpets and even the pedal rubbers are almost free of wear.

The dash is free of damage and there is the original Rover Mini radio cassette mounted on the nearside with speakers mounted tidily at the rear. The headlining is in very good condition.

Like all Minis, the Tahiti is surprisingly versatile. The car may be small, but it has a decent-sized boot and plenty of storage space. It is beautifully practical too with an average fuel consumption of around 40 miles per gallon.

Our view

Interestingly, there is a window sticker that says; “My other car is a Rolls Royce”. It’s true. We are told of all of his cars this was one of Dr Allam’s favourites. It is easy to see why.

A unique and enjoyable version of the classic Mini “specials”. With its eye-catching paintwork, nimble handling and practicality, this Mini Tahiti offers a blend of style, performance, and versatility that is hard to beat. It is of course great fun too, never forget that.

The charm and character that make it a favourite among Mini enthusiasts and classic enthusiasts everywhere. Add in the fact they only built 500 of these and this one has only 14,000 miles on it.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
